The highly popular "Vision Taiwan" programme, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Taipei Representative Office in the UK, will be showcasing two Taiwanese films "As We Like It (揭大歡喜)" and "Get the Hell Out (逃出立法院)" at the 10th Chinese Visual Festival (CVF) on July 16 and July 22, respectively.
Previously selected to premiere at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in 2020, "As We Like It," is a feature film by Taiwanese directors Wei Ying-chuan (魏瑛娟) and Chen Hung-i (陳宏一). "As We Like It" drew inspiration from Shakespeare's play "As You Like It." The reworking of Shakespeare's play opted for an entirely female cast, referencing Shakespeare's era when women were banned from the stage and all roles were played by men.
"Get the Hell Out," a zombie comedy farce by Taiwanese director Wang I-fan's (王逸帆), was previously selected as one of the 50 films to be screened at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Shot in the southern city of Kaohsiung, the dark comedy is the emerging director's first feature film, which depicts a chaotic situation when desperate survivals are struggling to escape from Taiwan's Parliament building where a deadly virus has turned most of the law makers and government officials into the walking dead.
The Chinese Visual Festival (CVF) in the UK is a leading cultural event which showcases the very best in contemporary cinema and art from around the Chinese-speaking world.
