Cloud Gate Lauded by Audience & Critics

From 9-12 May, Taiwan’s world-renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre premiered its latest masterpiece ‘Formosa’ at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre. ‘Formosa’ received rave reviews from mainstream UK newspapers such as the Guardian as well as the Times, which lauded the show as a ‘remarkable production’ that ‘stands as one of the master choreographer Lin Hwai-min's finest creations.’ The performance was extremely popular, attracting a full house at every showing. At the invitation of the TRO, members of the UK government, parliament and diplomatic corps, including Lord Steel of Aikwood and the High Commissioner for St Vincent and the Grenadines H.E. Mr Cenio E. Lewis, as well as prominent figures from art and culture, the press, academia and Taiwanese community attended the performance.

In his opening speech, Deputy Representative Shyang-Yun Cheng praised the globally-renowned dance troupe as a ‘national treasure’ that he was proud to share with guests. Following the performance, founder and director Mr Lin Hwai-min was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Trinity Laban for his lifelong and outstanding contributions to the fields of dance and choreography. Mr Lin Hwai-min has also previously received the Samuel H.Scripps/American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his work, putting him on par with world-famous choreographers including Pina Bausch, William Forsythe and Martha Graham.
