‘Taiwan Cinema Night’ was held on 29th October at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel to celebrate the fourth consecutive year that Taiwanese cinema has been screened as part of the London East Asia Film Festival 2019, and was attended by VIPs from the world of cinema. Also in attendance was director Mark Lu, whose film ‘Deep Evil’ was one of two Taiwanese films selected to compete in LEAFF’s prestigious competition programme.
In his welcome speech, Deputy Representative Shyang-Yun Cheng highlighted that thanks to Taiwan’s reputation as being a vibrant hub of creative filmmaking, it has been an important destination for directors from across Asia for many years.
Following on from the 2018 strand Cinematic Journey through Taiwan, this year six critically acclaimed films from Taiwan were screened to full-house audiences across LEAFF’s specially curated strands, allowing British audiences the opportunity to enjoy a selection of diverse cinema from innovative new Taiwanese directors.
