Ceramic making requires artistic vision and precise scientific calculations. Visit Taiwanese engineer-turned-ceramics-master Jui-Fang Hsueh's debut UK exhibition to learn how he experiments with chemical reactions to create his unique pieces. Hosted by Tao Lin Studio, learn about his unique sculpting and glazing techniques, and discover the process and story behind each unique artwork.
Jui-Fang Hsueh has been combining his scientific knowledge of chemistry, temperature and atmosphere with his artistic vision for over 50 years to create some of Taiwan’s most treasured and revered ceramic works. Respected as one of Asia’s leading ceramic artists, Hsueh began a lifelong exploration and appreciation of ceramics under the influence of the father of ceramic art in Taiwan, his father-in-law Professor Pao-Chia Lin.
Ceramics are an integral aspect of Taiwanese culture. Practised by Taiwan’s aboriginal people and influenced by Dutch, Japanese and Chinese cultures, Taiwanese ceramic making reflects its rich and complex history. Renowned for high quality ceramic making, Taiwan even has a village dedicated to its practice: Yingge Village has over 800 businesses for ceramics and pottery making.
Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan.
