Performers

Violin Professor since 2003 at the University of North Florida, Simon Shiao held the title of Gerson Yessin Distinguished Professor of Music from 2005-2007.  A versatile performer, Mr. Shiao has the distinction of having performed at Carnegie Hall in three different capacities: as a recitalist, and with both string quartet and orchestra.

Mr. Shiao has appeared around the world in concert, as well as on broadcasts of CNN’s Science and Technology program and on Public Radio’s Live on WGBH, Performance Today and Wyoming Public Radio.  Highlights of his performances include concerts at London’s Goodenough College, the Museum of Oceanography in Monte Carlo, the U.S. Embassy in Vienna, the National Concert Hall of Taipei, the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum in Boston, and as a soloist with the New World Symphony in Miami. He has also appeared at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, A Winter Festival in Jerusalem, the Heidelberg Schloss Festspiele in Germany.

Mr. Shiao’s discography includes recordings for BMG, Decca and Albany records. He resides in Jacksonville, Florida with his wife Anna Genest, his children Alexander and Kate and two cairn terriers.

Lucy Chen is chair of the Edward Waters College music department and founder of the Keys on Parade piano program for underserved children.  Highlights of her concert career include solo performances at Carnegie Hall, the Music Teachers National Association conference at Oberlin Conservatory, the Liszt Bicentennial Celebration at Boston Tsai Performance Center, and the Spring of Shanghai concert series at He Lu Ding Concert Hall in Shanghai.  As an educator, Mrs. Chen is a strong advocate for arts integration.  She is a teaching artist for the Kennedy Center’s Lift Every Student Initiative.  Mrs. Chen received her Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance from Boston University.
